This argument, that AI is necessary if you want to make art as a poorer person, only works if you think “making art” requires oil paints, high quality brushes and an easel and years of professional training.

It doesn’t require any of that.

You are not being gatekept from making art on the cheap

Write a novel in the notes app. Nobody is stopping you.

If you wanna get into photography you can do so with the phone you probably already have.

Or get one of those modern cheaper Polaroid cameras easy peasy

Go into the toys / stationary section of a big box department grocery store (the ones all over America) and yeah, like OP is saying, you can get colored pencils and a flimsy sketch pad or a paint by numbers kit or whatever for less than 10 bucks.

I’m not an illustrator but those same pens work fine whether I’m drawing a blueprint for a house or an approximation of a specific prop.

Even the nicer journals I buy are like 20 bucks at most.

I didn’t really care for the pope karaoke meme from a couple days ago but I just rolled my eyes and kept it moving. Very easy.
