This meme is a response to people (who don’t normally identify as neurodivergent) questioning whether the category “neurotypical” exists

I think this question risks centring neurotypical experience and making us exceptional

Neurotypical serves an important purpose for now

These meme challenges the simplistic idea that neurodiversity is a “strengths based” approach.

Yes do identify the things you’re good at and do those things. But no don’t make access to respect and understanding something people have to earn with a specific talent.
September 13, 2025 at 9:52 AM
This meme is about the fact that neurodiversity is quite heavily grounded in western schools of thought.

We need to recognise that indigenous and culturally-specific forms of knowledge hold other ways of understanding individual and collective identities to avoid doing harm.

This meme is about the need to retain and cultivate aspects of the medical system even while rejecting the medical model of disability and the default pathologisation of difference from the norm.

Neurodivergent people deserve quality evidence based healthcare when they want it.
September 13, 2025 at 9:35 AM
This meme says that everyone has equal value regardless of their support needs.

All too often when we push for respect and rights for neurodivergent people, others worry we mean that particular needs don’t exist & supports should be removed.

NO! You have a RIGHT to those supports.
September 13, 2025 at 9:35 AM
This meme is flagging the problems that arise when people use “neurodiverse” to talk exclusively about neurodivergent people - and often exclusively about those with confirmed diagnoses.

Yes we need language that identifies separate groups but “neurodiverse” connects us all together.

Very excited to be speaking at the Autism Europe Congress hosted by @asiamireland.bsky.social in Dublin this week.

I’ll be talking about the neurodiversity movement and the promise of collective liberation for all autistic people!

We're recruiting - one in-person (Edinburgh) & one online (anywhere) focus group

We're interested to hear from folk who have experience of depression, and opinions on future possible new treatments.

Finally tap on the name of the Feed itself (in your list of Feeds) to see the Feed homepage.

From here you can get a link to share the Feed.

This allows you to toggle between Recent and Top posts too.

This Feed has (I think) a seven day limit so it only has posts from the last week.
November 17, 2024 at 10:54 AM
Tap on the Hashtag icon on the top right corner to see a list of your feeds.

Tap on edit to change the order they appear at the top of your home page, and which ones are Pinned or not.
November 17, 2024 at 10:54 AM
Once you’ve followed the feed you can also choose to Pin it which means it will be visible on the top bar of your homepage.

You can scroll between feeds you Follow to see just the content of those feeds, which helps it not get lost in your busy Home feed (which merges all your Feeds & People)
November 17, 2024 at 10:54 AM
You can post to the feed by adding a hashtag #AutRes

(all lower case works too but is less accessible to readers)

But the feed also picks up any posts that use the word autism and the word research in the same post, with or without a hashtag.

These words don’t need to be consecutive either.

Absolutely thrilled to receive my preordered copy of this book and can’t wait to read it. @drrobertchapman.bsky.social is one of the deepest and most careful thinkers I know and I’m excited to read the outcome of their exploration of the intersection of neurodiversity and capitalism

Today I finished my cycling challenge, raising funds for #SuperTroopSeptember

272km or 168 miles
18 hours and 20 minutes riding

The very last bit of cycle path was this amusingly-short stretch in Oxgangs.

If you’ve been waiting to donate, wait no longer :-)
