Agree! Mel talked about this Maiden Castle painting which I really like - completed in the 1940s, and his visit to the excavations there in the 1930s.

Visited the Treasure: History Unearthed exhibition at Museum of Liverpool today, lovely to see the Mold Cape again!
The gold Mold Cape, an ornate sheet gold shoulder covering garment, with rows of decoration almost like garlands of beads. Lit up in a dark display case. Three hoards of Viking silver on display in a case. At the top are rectangular strips which are flattened arm rings. A Bronze Age hoard with three bronze palstave axes, a coiled gold torc or bracelet and lots of small gold ornaments, as well as a base fragment of pottery.

In the foreground is a blue festival flag. A print of the giant (as yet unnamed) created as a community arts project by Radical Ritual and Dorset Natural Landscapes. Each portion (like in a game of consequences) was created in workshops by a different group - autistic teenagers, refugees, primary school children etc, and then pulled together by an artist. The giant has a sunflower eye, an elephants trunk, butterfly ears, multiple legs, bubbles, flags, so many things it is hard to describe. And so colourful! A photo of the huge (impossible to see really) print on the hillside. The sunflower of the eye is just visible. Fields and hedges line the valley below. Had a bit of a sort out of my shelves at work today. Not saying I should do this more often but I found a very pretty but long dead dark arches moth behind all the books.

Popped in to see the ongoing excavations at Arthur's Stone today. Great to see the beautiful outer walling of the tomb and inner earlier ring cairn, plus some more of the avenue - does it lead all the way to the river? #StandingStoneSunday (ish)

I went to Hay Castle today for the first time since its major overhaul, very impressed with the restoration, interpretation and view from the top!

I only have a small yard at the back of our house but finally finished giving it a makeover today (it had lots of horrid gravel, bare concrete, peeling wall paint etc before).
Patio doors opening onto a small yard with high cream walls. At the end are two chairs, to the side is a metal trellis, the floor is orange (terracotta) and there are various plants in pots and a geometric rug.

Been on a walk today from Caldicot to Black Rock, stopping off for a quick look at Heston Brake chambered tomb. More info on the monument here: thejournalofantiquities.com/2015/03/25/h... #StandingStoneSunday
Two stones - one smooth, squat and cuboid, the other waisted, taller and a conglomerate, stand on a grassy rise. Beyond some other stones are just visible but a pile of brambles smothers them. Undulating countryside beyond. The same two stones, seen from the opposite direction. The low slabs in the bramble patch are more obvious now. Beyond is the Prince of Wales Bridge crossing between England and Wales.
