Back in 2010, my friend Tom made me a mix CD with a slightly obscure @dischord.com band on it that I quickly became obsessed with. 15 years later Black Eyes have finally put out a new album and I got to review it for @pitchfork.com pitchfork.com/reviews/albu...

Checked this out of morbid curiosity cuz this review is going around my corner of social media and I’m kind of aghast that it exists. Just some of the blandest, most uninteresting takes on early 2000s radio rock that was already some of the blandest music that existed! pitchfork.com/reviews/albu...

One of the preeminent garage rock/DIY pop labels of our time. From the early albums of Mikal Cronin to their recent releases like The Tubs and En Attendant Ana, there was almost never a point I wasn’t excited about something they were releasing. A true loss for the indie world

My friends in Crushed have put out one of the best debuts of the year, a stunning collection of internet soaked experimental pop that is as effortlessly cool as it is heartbreaking. Can’t recommend it enough crushedworldwide.bandcamp.com/album/no-scope

Reading Pynchon for the 1st time is so funny because there will be something like “we’re supporters of the Confederate general who fought the Russians in the SF Bay during the Civil War”, laugh, wonder what it’s making fun of, and find out that, no, that actually happened

Excellent interview about a whole chunk of dance music I know very little about (but am excited to explore). Also touches on how the punk/DIY zine underground set the templet for this type of thing which is a fun bit of cultural exchange
I interviewed Florida rave pioneer Peter Wohelski about TRiP Magazeen, a DIY zine from 1992-94 that covered UR, Aphex Twin, Mixmaster Morris, Laurent Garnier and so many more. Newly compiled, it's a time machine from a lost, pre-internet world.

To be clear, what NOLA Councilmembers are proposing isn’t just facial recognition —they already have that.

They want to run facial rec *on everybody at all times* without warrant or suspicion of a crime.

This is without precedent in the US & and an almost unfathomable assault on the 4th Amendment.

I considered the Department of Homeland Security’s new white nationalist recruitment memes, in the context of the well-documented history of DHS downplaying and disregarding white nationalism and “domestic extremism.” As upsetting as these posts are, it also tracks.
