Rock glaciers (creeping bodies made of a mixture of scree and interstitial ice), flow at lower speed than glaciers, typically few dm/yr 🧊

Here are 8 yrs of RG surface change on the Dos Lenguas RG (Dry Argentinean Andes), at 11 cm resolution!! 💪

Superb aerial footage of Zanskar mountains (Ladakh, India)! 🤩

The accumulation area of the mighty Drang Drung glacier (largest gl. in Zanskar with ~70 km²) is visible at foreground 🧊

Iran is facing its worst drought since at least six decades! 😱🔥💧

As a result the iconic Damavand (5,609 m asl), Iran's highest peak, was snow-free at mid-autumn, which appears to be unprecedented! ❄️😰

This stratovolcano had a 3.4 km ice cover in 2002... likely gone today! 🧊 📈

Imagine,

Passing in front of Morteratsch Glacier in the 1860s like Adolphe Braun here... 🧊 📷

At that time, it was at its Little Ice Age maximum extent!

Imagine that no AGW has occurred since then 🏭

The glacier would not have lost 3.3 km, but likely only one third... 📉

Imagine! 🥰

Acceleration of the retreat of Grande Glacier since 2023! 🧊🔥

Grande Glacier is the iconic glacier east of the Cerro Torre! 🏔️

Recent variations show its retreat rate has increased since 2023, quadrupling the values of previous years! 😰

Forni Glacier (Alta Valtellina)
2005 | 2023

Once - not so long ago - it was the largest glacier in Italy...! 🧊💪

Now it has split in three parts, as the three tributaries quickly retracted! 😰

Great documentary about climate change impacts on glaciers in italy and beyond! 🧊🔥

1,019 glaciers have disappeared since 1973 in Switzerland! ✝️

1st nationwide assessment of vanished glaciers:
>40% of the glaciers inventoried in 1973
~13% (47±3 km²) of total glacier area loss! 🧊🔥

But, as it is based on the latest inventory (from 2016), the actual figures are far much higher! 📈 😰

Ski lift operators are commiting what amounts to environmental crimes! 🤬

Since 2024, SATA which operates Deux Alpes ski area has levelled Mont De Lans Glacier and filled in a 2000 m² new glacial lake that had appeared around 2010... without any authorisation!

The Arctic as we knew it is disappearing right in front our eyes... crazy warm anomalies up to ~20°C! 😱

Do you see the cold anomalies that (according to climate denials) counterbalance the warm ones?

No, because they hardly occur...

4.5 m thickness loss! 🧊🔥

This is what Adamello Glacier - the largest Italian glacier - has lost during last summer at this ablation stake located around 2900 m asl! 😭

Limestone extravaganza in Diablerets! 😍

Enjoy Tsanfleuron ('flowery field'), one of the last karst glacier in the Alps, which has a nice feature: feeding both Rhine and Rhône with meltwater! 🧊💧

Check the diffluence towards Sex Rouge, first ice freed in 2022!

Scandinavian ice patch archaeology is so fascinating! 🥰

In October 2024 was first spotted a 1500 yr-old (likely before the 530s CE cold event) reindeer trap system at the retreating margin of a small ice patch on the Aurlandsfjellet mountain plateau!

From now on ppl will start sayin:
"next week is going to be cold, normal, it's winter!"

But this will be NOTHING compared to the warm anomaly we just lived!

2025 in F:
676 hot monthly records
vs
30 cold...

Now dare to tell that the two “balance each other out”

SW quarter of France this morning experienced Tmin of 17 to 23°C ! 😱

Yes, some 'tropical nights' in November! 🥵

This is far more than what we can normally expect during the afternoon mid-november in these regions... insane!

Aurora Borealis over the deepest ice in the Alps two days ago! 😍

This beautiful scene can't hide a crazy warm anomaly!

The southernmost glacier in Norway is about to extinct soon! 😰

Breifonn was not exactly a small glacier at the end of the LIA (6 km²).
But only scattered patches totalising 0.15 km² remain today, meaning disappearance in the next few years... 😱

Zermatters are really working hard to destroy their land! 😭

After Gorner dam, digging Theodule gl. and excessive cable cars, introducing...

A 260 m-high tower! 😲

'to fix the housing shortage caused by tourist pressure' 😂

Wait, have you thought about regulating this unrestrained tourism?! 🤔🤬

Crazy mid-November snow melt episode in the Pyrenees! ❄️🔥
Tourmalet: 2115 m asl 🏔️

Winter heat waves so strong that they could damage the entire snowpack! 😱📈

A giant tsunamigenic rock avalanche (1 km²) that traveled ~16 km (partly onto ice) has just been dated to 10.9 ka in south Greenland! 😲
Impressive case and paper! 👏

Contemporary to the one we just dated in Ecrins massif! ⏱️

Such events are expected to be more frequent due to climate change! 🔥

Floating upright for... over 130 yrs! 🌲🌊

First noticed by Diller in 1896, probably already submerged earlier and dead well before (14C dated to 450 BP)!

The 'Old Man of the Lake', a 9-m long Tsuga has been swimming in Crater Lake (Oregon) for over a century! 💪

Glacier Blanc from Tuckett Hut
1926 | 2025

Exactly one century of man-induced ice loss at the largest glacier (now) in the Ecrins massif! 🧊🔥

The scale is difficult to grasp here, but the glacier has lost approx. 1.8 km in length over this period! 📈

On 7th Nov., the new hazard map for #Blatten has been presented 👇

Red zones have been extended. However, 4 locations have been identified where re-building could be possible from a natural hazards perspective! ⛰️🌊

But, who would want to relocate where? 🤔
