I think, actually, you can do that, some times. Is there a rule against it where you teach? Is anyone watching? Will your students report you for it, or just thank you? Tell them to just go rest and read quietly.

Sorta depends on whom you practice with and where. But yeah, definitely a dangerous practice, not to be too lightly undertaken.

The Socratic method is not debate, it's dialectic. That is, it's a cooperative effort to arrive at an understanding. In principle at least.
