I worked for a decade with subsistence farmers, in various parts of Africa. The thought of factory farming becoming established here does my head in! Wrong on so many levels.

Sorry about your cold, Lindsay. At least you can still admire the view. We’re near Fakenham, in a village called Helhoughton. It’s our friends’ cottage. Very cute, but freezing cold until you get the stove going, and keep it going! So quiet, but past 2 days the rain has set in. Heading home this pm.

It’s actually a barbel, Lindsay… and there quite a few big ones like this in the Dove, apparently. They put up a tremendous fight - I thought I’d caught a steam train at the start when I hooked this one!
This one is a pike - it’s a predator. The barbel is muscular herbivore/omnivore.

Driving behind a tall lorry last week, our car was hit by a stone, we thought. Then another. Then another 6 or 7!
In the lorry’s wake, the oak tree’ swaying branches were releasing a deluge of mighty green hail stones!

It’s the year of the Small Copper in my corner of Derbyshire. Never seen so many as this year.

An old “friend” of mine.
Another research paper I really ought to finish and publish! 👀
