Trump's objection, and the basis of his lawsuit, is about the editing of one answer to one of the 40+ questions. CBS didn't cover anything up. It broadcast the answer at issue, which certainly wasn't flattering to Harris. But it chopped up the answer and aired two different parts on two different shows, which exposed the network to criticism. That's it. That's the substance of the lawsuit that CBS parent Paramount is on the verge of settling. Trump went on the warpath last fall, claiming "election interference" and "the biggest scandal in broadcast history," which it wasn't and isn't. He is seeking $20 billion in damages, which is an amount more than twice the market cap of Paramount and nearly four times as much as Trump's estimated net worth. Here's the thing: No one believes Trump was damaged to the tune of $20 billion. No one believes the Harris interview changed the outcome of the election. But with Paramount's big-money Skydance deal hanging in the balance, this legal battle has strained "60 Minutes" and consumed CBS.

Middle class kids can afford one throw. Most miss. A few hit the target and get a small prize. A very few hit the center bullseye and get a bigger prize. Rags to riches! The American Dream lives on. Rich kids can afford many throws. If they want to, they can try over and over and over again until they hit something and feel good about themselves. Some keep going until they hit the center bullseye, then they give speeches or write blog posts about "meritocracy" and the salutary effects of hard work. Poor kids aren't visiting the carnival. They're the ones working it.

As a democratic nation committed to international law and human rights, Australia must make clear to the Israeli government that its actions are unacceptable. We have a responsibility to advocate for a just peace and a two-state solution. I appreciate the comments you made on Monday, rightly condemning the blockade and the actions of Israel as outrageous. But words must now be matched by action. I urge you to use all available diplomatic and economic tools to press for an end to the violence. This includes joining other nations in imposing targeted sanctions, ending arms trade and reviewing economic ties with Israel, supporting international accountability mechanisms, and upholding international law. I urge the government to press the Israeli Government to ensure humanitarian aid reaches all areas of Gaza. Famine must never be used as a weapon of war. Australia is sometimes called a middle power, but I do not accept that our influence is limited. We have stood up before—against apartheid in South Africa, in support of Timor Leste, and in defence of Ukraine. We can stand up now. The upcoming UN high-level conference offers a critical opportunity for Australia to lead. Goldstein Election Update I understand everyone's desire to rule a line under the election result in Goldstein. I would also prefer it was resolved. However, there are still up to 10,000 votes to count including postals, absentee and pre-poll declaration votes. The AEC has not yet declared the seat. Please respect the process and voters until a definitive position is clear.

Statement by Independent Member for Wentworth, Allegra Spender, on unauthorised and illegal pamphlets in Wentworth. Last night, the AEC announced it had identified one of the persons responsible for distributing 47,000 unauthorised and illegal pamphlets in Wentworth. I am writing to the AEC today to request more information about its decision. I am concerned that the AEC has announced that it will not identify the person responsible and will not decide whether to prosecute them until after the election. This pamphlet made false and defamatory claims against me and deliberately flouted the Australian Electoral Laws regarding the authorisation of election material. The AEC’s statement also says: “Voters are reminded to stop and consider the source of all messages relating to the 2025 federal election.” The purpose of the law on authorisation is to ensure voters can identify the source of election messages. It is not clear to me why, in this case, the AEC will not identify the source of this offensive material, which has already been widely distributed in pamphlet form and widely circulated by community social groups. How can voters consider the source if the AEC will not identify that source? I will be asking the AEC to reconsider its decision or explain what compelling reasons it might have in this case to override its responsibilities to inform the public and enforce the law.
