Hesgeth is a drunken idiot, no doubt about that - but wouldn't the lettering on his medals also be reversed in that case? The the text saying 'EXPEDITIONARY SERVICE' one looks the right way round to me?

NB I have no idea how medals are supposed to look, and could care less generally.

Some good coverage of the campaign to get the BBC to reverse their decision to limit access to the Written Archive at Caversham.

Weekend listening - mostly vinyl, all great, some brilliant.

Not all of these bands are from Luton and the Medway - but quite a few are.

This was very much not as nice as I recall from my childhood, when it was a real treat for special occasions. For a start, it contains no minced beef - no meat at all really - or onion, just a strange, faintly meat flavoured slime.

You will only need one guess.

You think people move there *by mistake*?

Records have been played, including the new ones from Rose Io and Johnny Trunk.

All pretty decent, some obviously great - and I may have acquired an unexpected taste for Italian thrash metal.

Always a good day that starts with a new record from Ron Geesin and Johnny Trunk!

Every time I see pics of these two together, I am freshly astonished that the country which, for almost my entire life, was the most important and powerful in the world, is now controlled by actual idiots.

Via Andrew Field on Facebook, re Farage.

Unsolicited Brix pic.

When watching a Japanese movie in which a cop can see, stamped on their foreheads, the number of sexual partners everyone has had (though only while the cop is masturbating!), I did not expect this Everton fan to pop up.

More Things wrong than there are sentences in this report on the derby from the Edinburgh Evening News.

Rangers fans confront the board last night. Almost as funny as Celtic's disallowed goal. Police called and everything!

Not sure what the worst thing I saw yesterday was - Michelle Mone whining that she's the real victim of her own apparent fraud, or this, where a man who looks to be in his 60s admits that he likes this teenage looking AI 'actress' because she's a virgin.

Vinyl listening over the weekend.
September 29, 2025 at 10:15 AM
Cool I things kept arriving this weekend!

I put this disclaimer in the front of all @obversebooks.co.uk books now. Like you say, it'll get harder to be sure no AI has been used at all in a source as time goes by and it becomes more widespread, but you're right - not doing it knowingly is the key.

Also memorably used on the Penguin Classics cover of Ecce Homo, back in the day.
