I’d say “it just makes me want to watch something good” but I also got really excited about a Pinky Violence boxset earlier today, so maybe my instruments need recalibration.

I’m not trying to say the concerns aren’t unfounded (I’m deeply suspicious and find myself scrutinizing new art with a concern bordering on clinical paranoia), but I’ve also got a huge backlog. It’s easier and less taxing to check out that game (or whatever) that people have gassed up for years!

I have to catch myself with that knee-jerk nostalgia backstop because I’m over 40. For example, I’m playing through the remaster of System Shock 2, a game that was hugely influential on my tastes and aesthetics as a teenager and even with improvements it doesn’t really hold up! That’s fine!
