Certain people use futuristic fiction to fantasise about all sorts of things (and/or people) which make them uncomfortable being “phased out” in the fullness of time. The fact they’d consider this “fated” speaks volumes.

I don't read enough of it to make pronouncements, but what you say rings true. Time stops at happily ever after.

I suppose this "romance" is a picture of love before it changes, before the passage of time alters it.
