It's the same with concert tickets. I know you'd really like to go, but it's not life or death. You can say "no," and if enogh did, the price would drop.

"Fewer delays" = lots of investment
"21 century ticketing" = more investment and less done by staff, and simplification means less revenue or higher prices
"Voice for passengers" they'll demand lower revenue and yet more investment
"Frozen fares" = higher subsidy

I predict more tax hikes.

There was undoubtedly strong anti nazi and Germany feelings, but side by side with racism, including the Irish. However, it was usually restricted to quiet comments within your own race. I don't remember abuse directly aimed at other races. This distinguishes Farage. He's a nasty piece of work.

True. There are a few occasions when, for a short while, passangers have to get used to two liveries to distinguish their trains.
December 9, 2025 at 12:32 PM
I also think society is intertwined. "High earners" need delivery drivers, their convenience store, their takeaway, a receptionist at the dentist, litter pickers, their dustbins emptied, etc. etc. etc. Unless there are locals ready, willing, and not working, you'll create a shortage and inflation.

It is quite good,

But different liveries for different services is actually helpful to passengers,

And I doubt Scotrail or TfW or NIR are going to carry the livery. Perhaps LNER's should be rolled out instead?

I call them "magic sausagers." They like pork sausages but don't want to know about the slaughter, butchering and mincing up of a pig. And the left have no comprehension of just how many of them there are.
December 6, 2025 at 4:53 PM
They need to sharpen up their maths, too. If you're simplifing from percentages to "1 in something," then 1 in 4 is closer.

Yes, my views are unpopular amongst spotters and railwaymen but not the general population from the time. Inter-city and NSE got all the money and stopped the rot, but Regional Railways and Railfreight were a ticking time bomb that helped take down Railtrack.
December 2, 2025 at 5:01 PM
For context, I am considered by my friends to be a bit of a leftie. I am also a rail enthusiast.

There are plenty of valid excuses for why British Rail were awful. But I was there, and they were awful.

😃 I thought my youngest daughter was a tiny bit weird with her quite strong reaction to beans touching egg, but apparently not!
November 27, 2025 at 3:46 PM
I'm slightly older than Farage. It is true that racism was more overt when we were at school. People's reactions have moderated, but they haven't changed. Those who participated are now quiet, and those who grimmaced are free to speak out, but the underlying sentiment remains.

I'd really like a tax expert to explain what the UK will lose.

His savings will be offshore.

He'll be non-dom and his foreign earinings will be tax exempt.

His UK assets can't go with him.

Just how much trickles down now and won't when he goes?

I've been busy and have not seen the news. "Stripped of their valuables .... now government policy." It seems unbelievable.
November 17, 2025 at 9:03 PM
I complained about the BBC doing this to the Leveson enquiry. Take something bad and exaggerate how bad it is. But I wasn't just complaining about the BBC. It's the modus operandi of journalists. Usually, you don't know enough about the subject to notice. Here, they've got caught out spectacularly.
November 16, 2025 at 9:36 AM
You're right. The right wingers forget how bad those days were. Unfortunately, all the socialists forget that all those nationalised industries contributed to the shitness!!!

Doesn't pointing out that he was born in Peru, agree rather than disagree with his "it's not where you're born" nonsense?
November 14, 2025 at 7:58 AM
Yes. Replace the DG with someone with some balls. Record an apology for the editing and add it to the front of the programme. Then, delete the poorly edited piece and replace it with a well edited piece. And finally, re-broadcast.
November 11, 2025 at 3:11 PM
That is a lightweight piece of journalism. The only fact is the debt. The remainder is unsubstantiated and, therefore, simply an opinion.
November 11, 2025 at 3:04 PM
Why doesn't the BBC re-record the episode of Panorama, starting with an unreserved apology, replace the offending edit with a good one, leave everything else alone, and re-broadcast?
November 11, 2025 at 1:12 PM
Martin Lewis did a poll about biase at the BBC about brexit. There was almost equal polling for (i) no bias, (ii) leavers biased to remain, and (iii) remainers biased to leave.

Of course, his followers might be inherently biased, but I thought it was reasonable evidence that the BBC is not biased.

There's a new lad started at work. I didn't ask because it doesn't matter but he could well be muslim. He confirmed it when he believed that the British were going to allow the IDF to police the Villa - Tel Aviv game.
