It's invasive common carp spawning season. Disturbance associated with carp spawning (i.e., bioturbation) resuspends sediments, nutrients, and microplastics.

Aquatic insects emerge from freshwaters as adults. When they do, many disperse laterally into terrestrial environments feeding birds, bats, etc. Healthy streams lead to healthy forests.
