It fucking worked!! (Kinda)

Gonna try one more time with plaster of paris mold making. If this doesn't work, then I'm going back to Mold Max 60 (heat res silicone)

Im struggling with making plaster molds. I dont know if I bought the wrong stuff but I’ve tried different ratios and mixing techniques and it just always comes out clumpy instead of smooth

All 7 leaves attached to a sprue. I’ll make a plaster mold of this whole thing in order to cast all 7 leaves at once

Out of 12 attempts last night, I made 7 workable duplicates :)

Made a third mold, this time a flat 2-piece mold. And after a couple tries I finally got a good injection! A lot of flashing but thats easy to clean up

All of my wax injection attempts. Not great results. I think I’m going to try a new mold with more vents for bubbles to escape to, and start tracking wax temp when I inject

This is what came out of that mold. Not perfect but pretty good! For this I used melted carving wax, but injection wax (in the mail) should turn out much better

I made a second silicone mold. This time taking extra care to remove bubbles and it looks like it worked much better. Also used the actual injection nozzle in the mold for a perfect fit

The idea here is to make a low temp silicone mold so i can infinitely duplicate the leaf in wax, and cast many of them in metal all at once (lost wax casting). This mold has too many bubbles though, which will show up in the duplicates. So its garbage.

And here’s the finished leaf with sprue and vent attached. Not really sure what the best orientation for this mold is but Im sure I’ll find out!

The 2nd attempt starting to take shape
December 8, 2024 at 5:09 AM
I was trying to carve a leaf of Lorien but ended up not liking the direction I took it, so I found some nice reference leaves outside and started over
December 8, 2024 at 5:09 AM
A little while ago I bought some wax and tools and started carving this

Also working on this old game again in my spare time

I used to love 3D modelling when I was a kid. I think this whole pewter casting hobby is a manifestation of that, so I'm leaning into the modelling side

The pewter cast beyblade bits fit perfectly snug in a beyblade, but ultimately this experiment was a failure. Although the fit is snug, the added weight of the bits was too much for the flimsy plastic teeth holding it in place, and these babies would go FLYING anytime I battled

Second mold pour. This one is casting 4 bits (the spindle the beyblade spins on). I'm 2 for 2 on perfect castings right now

There she is

The weighted piece with sprue and vent removed
October 21, 2024 at 6:30 PM
Cracking open my first pewter cast. This piece almost 10x'd my beyblade's weight. Sitting at something like 98g

Just gonna dump my last couple weeks of twitter posts here

We're so back. Spending time with this relic, trying to update it to the latest Unity version and get it back on app stores
