Well done people of Exeter for turning up and opposing the far right marching on our streets. My Swiss immigrant wife and I met several other non-Brits today who have made their home here and who were also part of the "This is what community looks like" brigade.

The people I work with are not stupid people and our climate predictions of 30 years ago of global warming have proved to be accurate. Just saying. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cp...

well and truly in. But maybe the luckiest thing of all was that I had Mr TB Johnson as my English teacher as he encouraged me to take creative writing seriously and to have fun with it as well. Next month I'll be tutoring an @arvonfoundation.bsky.social masterclass on writing non-fiction for a

in my age category, which meant I got to go and get a silver cup from the then Prince of Wales at St James's Palace and I also won for me and my family and my English teacher and his wife (he having subbed the £1 entry fee) a trip on the QE2 to New York followed by 5 days in Bermuda. Unfortunately

Here is a picture of my mum, dad and me (sitting down) and my English teacher, Mr TB Johnson, and his wife, in Bermuda at the last night party of our stay at our beachside hotel during which we played bingo. The story is that my English teacher one day (during 2nd year at secondary school) asked

Really chuffed that my good friend and colleague, Gabi Hegerl, has been awarded a CBE in the King's Birthday Honours. She and Ben Santer were the pioneers who detected human-induced climate change in the mid 1990s as I wrote about in my book Hot Air and why it was such a crucial advance at the time.

Preparing a talk on Thursday @climateactionbovey.bsky.social I've been finding the latest book by @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social inspirational. Crucially that the future is not yet written and to embrace uncertainty is part of the effort to take hope.

Great night with Sophie Ellis-Bextor in Plymouth last night!

Really sorry to hear that. We lost our Esme three weeks ago today who had been with us since 2015 after also being rescued and she was also a huge blessing to us. Pierrette and I send our thoughts and condolences.

Snowy scene in Exeter this morning. According to the Swiss resident of the household, this is "proper snow" falling. Don't think that's an official @metoffice.bsky.social categorisation but we did go to bed last night knowing there was a @metoffice.bsky.social weather warning for snow this morning.

Nancy Campbell, tutor on a recent Arvon Foundation writing course I went on, introduced us to Staying with the trouble by Donna Harraway and I'm enjoying it very much so far and finding it helpful.

We said goodbye to our cat Esme yesterday (cancer) and I'm feeling very sad about that. We had a wonderful nine years together so there are lots of memories to look back on. But the house is very quiet today without her. Here is a picture from April 2017.

In 2000 we published a paper showing how well our climate model simulated past temperatures. We also included a future projection. Now when we compare observed temperatures to 2023 (in black) with the projection (red) it does remarkably well! Thanks to @garethsjones.bsky.social who updated the plot.
