I believe if you are known as a POW your family still receives your pay, including promotions you would normally achieve. If you are declared KIA there are payouts, including a special life insurance policy only available to service members, and some continuing benefits.

I saw Jack White on a talk show. He was talking about being in Dodger Stadium when they played Seven Nation Army. People thought he hated that. He said it's amazing to have 30K people singing his song and getting hyped up. He said it becomes like folk music.

He's really cool.

I worked at a film school in the early 2010's. I was surprised at how many of the students either hated or just didn't like the Princess Bride. It was around 70% dislike or worse.

And these weren't art snobs. They worshipped Spielberg and Cameron.

I never understood it.

"Roll credits."

If you know. You know.

I would bet dollars to donuts that 95%, or more, of that unruly incident increase in some way involved someone not using headphones.

And I blame the ridiculous decrease in headphone use on the disappearance of physical headphone jacks.

I've been doing this for years without being told.

I feel like such a pro.😀

Cincinnati is just down the road. Is WKRP part of the shared universe?

The actor that played gangster Fat Andy in GoodFellas was an NYPD detective IRL. At the time, he was doing hits for the Lucchese Crime Family, the mob famy portrayed in the movie. He eventually died in federal prison.

Insane cojones for a cop to play a gangster in a movie while working for the mob.

I have preached for decades, that if there were no Rocky sequels, the original would rightfully be grouped with classic 70's gritty urban cinema--Mean Streets, Serpico, Taxi Driver, Dog Day Afternoon, and others.

Also, imagine being around kindergarten age and trying to explain DDA to your peers the next day. 😄

I saw this movie at a drive-in when I was about 6. My parents took me to a double feature, assuming I'd be asleep before it started. They both passed out during the first film. I was riveted by DDA. It had an out sized influence on my taste and filmmaking. Amazing film.

People really need to be taught the difference between the hero and the protagonist.

Just because the movie focuses on a character, it doesn't mean it condones their behavior.

Even without the turning point, his obsession with the girl is presented as an embarrassing, shameful regression. Even Lester realizes he's ridiculous as he's acting out.

Everyone that gets a sniff of his behavior condemns him.

At no point is it promoting Lester's obsession.

When people like MTG turn on the cult, I don't understand why people have to fawn over them or take that moment to remind everyone they aren't really good people.

Standing back and silently letting them eat each other is the obvious choice.

It was a MAJOR overage, but the production had to pay it so the art director could bring his side piece to St. Louis.

It's stuff like this that got me out of production.

That and multiple failed attempts by the art crew at cleaning a historic building, finally lead to a professional power washing company, recommended by one of the building owners, running all over the city power washing away dough.

Cleanup was not easy. A week after production had moved on from city hall, the mayor called threatening lawsuits and arrests if the unleavened bread wasn't dealt with immediately.

Fun fact: flour left out over night combines with dew and makes dough.

Something we Midwestern hicks brought up. The "SFX" guy assured us this is how they did it in Hollywood.

We threw massive amounts of flour all over several historical buildings, including St. Louis City Hall.

It was everywhere. On rooves, stairs, landscaping, statues. Everywhere.

The SFX specialist they brought in from LA, who was just some idiot the art director was sleeping with, decided to use flour for snow.

He came up with this last minute so we had to go to grocery stores and get literally hundreds of bags of flour (several large exteriors.) 2/
