I believe that! This year our org has even paid for some of the required coach training and bought down other costs for younger kids to join. But they’re doing it by expanding “charitable gambling” which feels a bit icky!

Hockey is expensive just with gear and ice time, but also the volunteer team managers tend go way beyond that with additional asks. They want to buy swag bags, hats, team meals, garment bags, etc. They want extra tournaments = fees, hotels, driving, meals.
Overconsumption is a parent problem.
