students also need help complimenting constructively! sometimes they don't know how useful it can be to just say "wow, what a good comparison here, that really made sense to me." people can absolutely learn from praise, especially when it's specific.

honestly it IS harder to grade a pile of papers that are all different, where students have swung for the fences on wildly divergent topics. but this time i have the privilege of relatively small classes, and i also find identical essay topics mind-numbing, so here we are. in weirdoville

tbh too many films with big fights have everyone immediately jump into choreographed strikes/blocks, like they're all dancing partners who practice together. this is so high-tension and uncertain that it's riveting
