As a British reader what does grate is though that the post-war Labour government is repeatedly claimed as being pro-Empire. Oddly Bass also uses some distinct colloquial phrasing at odds with the otherwise academic tone.

Oddly my only memory of the brand is of some gravelly voiced ad about Duckham’s Hyper Grade. Unlike Valvoline.
