VPI Scoutmaster turntable, glowing white Todd Rundgren from the inside sleeve SPECIALLY PRICED 2-RECORD SET Continuing the orgy of self-reflection is the most mispro-nounced, misspelled and mis-understood artist on the block, Bearsville Records' Todd Rund-gren. This song, besides being on Todd's double album, Something/Anything?, hails from "Baby Needs a Pair of Snakeskin Boots," a "pop operetta" which occupies Side 4. Whereas Herr Rundgren sings and plays all the parts on Sides 3, 2 and 1 (the latter of which contains his hit single "I Saw the Light"), Todd lets some of his friends come in and play with him on Side 4. "My original idea for this side," he says, "was a series of songs with sing-along choruses. All the songs were performed live and there were no over-dubs. The people that showed up were the people who sang and played, meaning that anyone who happened to be in the studio or in the neighborhood and didn't have anything better to do came in to play. Every-body, including me, learned the songs immediately prior to re-cording them, so most of it is spontaneous to a degree. Any-way, I decided it would scan better if I drafted it into a sort of operetta, that kind of thing being very popular nowadays." Musicians on "Dust" include Mark Klingman, organ; John Simon, drums; Randy Brecker, trumpet; Mike Brecker, tenor sax; Barry Rogers, trombone; Rick Derringer, guitar, and John Siegler, bass.

FIRST exposure to Simple Minds was a friend's gold marbled New Gold Dream (loved). 2 releases later, their sound is less New Wave, still great.

Great 1985 US pressing. No noise, great mastering, good bass. This is on repeat.

73 is a rarity, an early RR recording that was something of an accident. 5 veteran musicians doing what they did best, not fiery, just masterful jazz.

Norvo is my new favorite vibraphonist and this is a stellar recording, lovely.

Love this! Vaughan right in the midst of a hard-bop group, not lush or orchestrated. Improvises like a horn player! Clifford Brown’s interplay with Sarah is magic and the band is full of legends.

Dad respected Willie (a fave of Mom), had a few vinyl and SACD.

Strikingly stripped down performance. Willie mostly solo, silence takes the space of a backing band (piano & bass enter sparingly)

Has an atmospheric mood, kind of unique (at least from my recent listens) Great release. Wide, open soundstage. Jones’s drums in particular have punch and texture, and Hubbard’s trumpet cuts clean.

Really great compilation of radio classics. Marley truly was a legend. Nice to have on vinyl and the GZ reissue is pretty enjoyable.
