Scientists long thought the plant cell wall to be dead, but it's an active, even chatty participant in cellular growth, reproduction and responses to infection

Plants have a secret language that scientists are only now starting to decipher
Signals from the plant cell wall help to orchestrate growth, reproduction and immune function. Can harnessing this molecular cross talk help in creating better crops?

The dissertation! 150 pages of prairie, history, & more pawpaws than you'd expect.

I've sold over 850 copies of this baby, and the world being what it is, it's far too expensive to print another edition right now.

Check it out in pdf form:

🌱 Excited to share that I will start my lab at EPFL, CH this June supported by a @snsf.ch Starting Grant! ramakrishna.ch

We are interested in plant mineral nutrition and will deep-dive into the fine-tuned mechanisms employed by plants to adapt to abiotic stresses such as salinity.

Along with every geneticist I am a total Mendel groupie and this new figure (www.nature.com/articles/s41...) that shows the chromosome location and underlying basis of his allelic pairs moves me to near-tears. Oh, to fly back in time and show this to him ...

Proud to present the first data paper from the lab, published today in @pnas.org.

We describe a new mechanism for CLE peptides as local symbiosis-amplifying signals, promoting plant interactions with beneficial arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi.

Congratulations @sagarbashyal.bsky.social et al.!

Exploring fern pathosystems and immune receptors to bridge gaps in plant immunity
Land plants include angiosperms, bryophytes, lycophytes and ferns, each of which may deploy distinct strategies to resist pathogens. Here, we investigate fern-pathogen interactions by characterizing n...
