Labour might be able to reverse some of their unpopularity if they put water into public ownership, and stopped stealth privatisation of the NHS. But as with so many things, they lack both the vision and principle to even consider it.
Just your regular reminder that public ownership is hugely popular in the UK. ✅

😡This must be stopped!

Labour's 2024 manifesto promised our NHS would always be "publicly owned and publicly funded".

Now they are talking about reintroducing PFI into our NHS.

PFI would set a ticking time bomb under our NHS that will blow up in patients' faces - ACT NOW.
Say no to new PFI in our NHS - take action
The government’s new 10-Year Plan for Health is proposing to bring disastrous private finance deals back into our NHS.

After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.
Let’s be clear about what happened to Jimmy Kimmel

It speaks volumes about the state of things, when a fictional satirical character is one of the few people hitting the nail on the head. Some harsh and awkward truths here. The full video is very on point.

Christian nationalism threatens democracy. Secularism protects it.
With Christian nationalism apparently gaining ground in the UK, Stephen Evans argues that secularism is needed to safeguard liberal democracy. Read More »

The government has published its explanation of the £100 billion estimate for nationalising English water

There are many reasons why we wouldn't have to pay that much but EVEN IF WE DID, Greenwich University research shows it would be a good deal 👇👇👇

Government's worst case scenario for nationalising water still leaves households better off
If the government took water into public ownership, it could save customers £3 billion a year. Research shows that debt and dividends is crippling the industry’s ability to fix the sewage crisis.

No surprise that household complaints about privatised water have soared

Water is a natural monopoly and they just increased our bills by 35%!

PUBLIC OWNERSHIP would save £3-5 billion a year - that money could reduce bills and/or clean up our rivers

Household complaints to water watchdog soar to highest level in nine years
The increasing number of complaints comes amid the steepest bill rises since the privatisation of the industry.

Hmmm... I remain skeptical but might have to give it a go. My doubts are partly because it's yet another Hollywood reboot/revival. But mostly, it's hard to accept the idea of a Naked Gun film without Leslie Nielsen.
‘THE NAKED GUN’ debuts with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Highest rated comedy of the decade.

So far, these local election results are as predictably bad for the Labour Govt as everyone assumed.

I also predict they'll take all the wrong lessons from this, and hand the UK over to Reform at the next general election.

It feels grimly pre-determined at this point.
