I’ve enjoyed a lot of superhero movies over the years: exciting action, compelling characters, engaging stories. Yet rarely have I felt such a pure, hopeful joy. It was unmistakably childlike while also far more than nostalgia. 3/

I saw a character that was earnest and good hearted, mighty yet vulnerable, confident yet not cocky: everything I hoped I could grow up to be.

A character who sees beauty in every person he encounters, and thereby participates in the gift of our shared humanity. 2/

It’s an ethos dedicated to breaking rather than building, to hurting rather than helping, to approaching others with contempt rather than curiosity.

Again, it’s profoundly anti-human (and, by extension, anti the God whose image and likeness we humans bear). 3/

He avoids violence, loves people, and has a contagious sense of awe and wonder.
