I wonder if this casting approach would yield a superior belt for the ZX Spectrum printer than the TPU-based 3d-printed replacements that are available now: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4822567

Dr. Talboom isn't so new to the party... A few years ago she offered me advice and some connections for my own archiving project as well, which felt generous since I'm not an academic or affiliated with Cambridge. I'm glad she's around.

Worth trying. Cyclomethicone's main use is lubrication, but it's useful for cleaning if you can't remove the cookie to wash it in water+soap. It may do some work as a solvent by itself, but I think it mainly keeps dirt and your q-tip from scratching up the media as you wipe.

Amazon will work --- most people use cyclomethicone to make cosmetics at home, so I think the sellers are buying large quantities from chemical suppliers and repackaging into smaller bottles. Just be sure to get cyclomethicone and not dimethicone: you want the stuff that evaporates (eventually).

I've been doing a fair amount of 8" floppy recovery lately and tend to use cyclomethicone fairly liberally as a lubricant to avoid snowplowing. It seems to work well. More discussion from the late, great Chuck Guzis at the end of this text file: www.retrotechnology.com/herbs_stuff/...

I think you owe your good, dry luck to the fact that nobody pressed that MOIST button on the tape deck.

Ah well! At least I dodged having to prove that I knew what I was talking about 😌 Feel free to share what you've got, although that "works on a 2/10 but not on a 2/5" one is a real puzzle.

If you bring the ESProFile and the images, we can have a look on Saturday...

Strange... the Selector is not very discriminating when it comes to listing files: all it does is look for filenames that end in .image . Are your files named that way?

I had need to use BLU with a very keytronixed keyboard once, and I wound up pulling out the keyboard PCB and tapping on the "plates" with a capacitive stylus I made by taping one of the few good pads to the end of a pencil. Typed in the bootstrap that way...

Good luck and sorry this is such a hassle! Are there any disk images that you're looking for? Maybe I've got something pre-made that I can share...

Yes! Use the utilities that come with LisaEm --- in my experience `dc42-to-rraw` is the one to use, but if it doesn't work, try `dc42-to-raw` 🙂

That's it! Just rename it profile.image and put it on the SD card. No need for the big file as it's for the PocketBeagle as you say, but I ought to fix that link.

Hi there, sorry about this! The Selector image is free for anyone to get on GitHub here: github.com/stepleton/ca..., no contact required. GitHub does hide the download button over on the extreme right side of the page though. See you on Saturday!
