Minister Steven Guilbeault resigns from federal cabinet over this today, and calls it a "serious mistake" to remove the Clean Electricity Regulations in his resignation letter.

Couldn't agree more.

Everything in this MOU is bad.

Likely overlooked is the suspension of the Clean Electricity Regulations in Alberta (which will surely lead to them being removed everywhere)

They would have saved 181 Mt of GHGs.

Thousands of people fought for years to get these regs. Less than a year later. Gone.

🌊✊ Civil Society Rejects Northwest Coast Oil Pipeline

40+ organizations stand with Coastal First Nations to protect the north Pacific coast. Oil tankers put communities, wildlife, and our climate at risk.

💧 No consent. No plan. No pipeline.

❗I'm so excited to talk with Dr. David Suzuki, Melina Laboucan-Massimo and Jordyn Burnouf - three of my movement heroes.

⚡We'll be talking about all things renewable power, and how it can bring the benefits we need at the global scale, and at the local.

🚨Climate Action Tracker updated Canada's analysis and it is BAD.🚨

Canada's weakening of climate action has been re-evaluated to now be in-line with levels of warming that likely can't support human civilization (4C+).

So... not great!

So much work to do as a country, and among our coalitions to re-focus on the bold, generational investments that Canada needs.

An east-west grid based on #renewables will bring down the cost of energy, create thousands of jobs, support workers and Indigenous leadership.

We'll keep pushing.

🚩A huge red flag is this mention of Canada amending the Canadian Environmental Protection Act - this will be to allow 'Equivalency Agreements' to last for more than 5 years.

This smells strongly of a set-up to weaken the Clean Electricity Regulations and other climate regs.

Generally, there is little detail in "Climate Competitiveness Strategy" except gutting regulations, and signalling stronger industrial carbon pricing.

On #electricity, they re-commit to NZ by 2050 (confirming the walk-back NZ by 2035), and re-commit to the CER. Which is better than cutting it.

On new measures for #renewables and Canada's east-west #electricity, there is very little detail in Budget 2025.

Vague gestures toward "exploring initiatives", but nothing concrete yet on the bold, generational investments we need on renewables, transmission, Indigenous-led projects

This budget is sure to be a doozy, with lots of bad, and hopefully some good.

I'll be looking out for big investments in an east-west grid based on #renewables, including:
🗼$20B for transmission and grid upgrades
🏡$6.5B for efficiency
🤝$5B for Indigenous-led projects

Proud to join 48 organizations across Canada calling on PM @mark-carney.bsky.social to reject giving public funds to Big Oil's Pathways Alliance Carbon Capture and Storage project. CCS is not nation-building, it is greenwashing.

I’m desperate for the day that the CBC is one of the outlets that stops taking oily money for ads from the lying liars in the fossil fuel industry.

I get that our public broadcaster needs some extra cash in this trying time, but it’s ugly petrostate bullshit.

A staggering 1 in 4 Canadians faced climate impacts in their communities this summer. The evidence in clear: we need to invest in nation-building, not nation-burning, projects. Read more about what communities are facing — and why we’re saying #ElbowsUpforClimate: elbowsupforclimate.ca

It's insane how the Alberta gov has blocked billions in investment in it's province, and committed itself to more expensive and polluting electricity by blocking wind and solar.

Alberta was Canada's leader in #renewables. No longer.
