This is a green heron.
I’ve only seen this bird once at the park but it was fascinating to watch - and small! I was used to herons being tall and lanky.

Funny enough, my first instinct when I see these is NOT to go for the shot just because I know how skittish they can be. And if they're this close, I just like standing there talking to them.

I wasn’t paying attention yesterday and startled a heron hiding along the shore. Had to hunt them down for the next 20 minutes and then I waited on the light.
