Beyond thankful to live in a community where immigrants share their culture and traditions to help me learn how good a mountain of butter and sugar added to sweet potatoes can taste. How did I only just discover the joys of this American staple?!

Abolishing the two child benefit cap will make a life changing difference to many families in Walthamstow for whom work is not enough. This budget has much to commend and much to work on - this cannot come a moment too soon for so many for whom there is too much month at the end of their money.

Good to hear the Chancellor identify the legacy of Brexit as one of the reasons our economy needs investment - the damage it has done is stark.

To offer any chance of salvaging British businesses and jobs affected, this budget shows we need to go further in the EU reset

Days like this when decisions are difficult, choices hard and the shouting the loudest, I often get asked why anyone would want to be involved in politics - this is the answer I gave to Lewes Labour Party.

With negotiations on future of Ukraine, the Prime Minister came to Parliament to update MPs - I urged him to progress talks with Europe on joining the Security Action For Europe scheme not as an alternative to NATO but as part of strengthening our ability to withstand the threat we face from Russia.

It’s not new and it’s not progressive - men repeatedly hurling abuse and trying to dogpile women who disagree with them from any political perspective isn’t debate. You can keep ‘allyship’ that is conditional on our compliance or subject to fulfilling your stereotypes about our interests or ideas.

You have until 5pm on this Thursday 27th November to get your entries in for my annual Christmas greeting card competition - anyone under 12 living in Walthamstow can enter and you win tea with me and your family in Westminster. Entries should be colourful but no glitter or stickers!

A pleasure to join Lewes Labour Party on Saturday to take their questions about the Labour movement - here’s my response on how we can reform our asylum system to gain more control at the border and treat refugees with compassion.

The Daily Telegraph is being bought by the Daily Mail. With columnists who write this kind of incel style bilge about someone they disagree with on immigration think it’s unnecessary tbh …

Without the ability to tour, bands would never get the chance to play, succeed and make us all memories that last a lifetime. That’s why @labour4europe.bsky.social campaigning to fix the problems Brexit has created - warning contains singing and dancing in the streets again …

The leader of the greens thinks he can persuade Putin to give up weapons. The leader of reform thinks he can cut public spending without cutting services. Labour risks falling into same trap in its immigration and asylum policies. To actually change the world we need less bravado and more scrutiny.

Tory hard Brexit didn’t even include our national security, let alone do anything to promote it - in an uncertain world internationalism is vital to our shared safety. Proud to stand with European colleagues at the parliamentary partnership assembly in pledging to tackle this.

The government intends to consult on how to enforce removal of families who previously held refugee status - today I asked the Home Secretary how this could work in practice. I will keep asking about this until we get answers.
November 17, 2025 at 10:51 PM
Plans to leave refugees in a state of perpetual uncertainty about where and if they can rebuild their lives are not just performative cruelty, they are counterproductive to integration and the economy. It doesn’t have to be like this - 1/2

Thank you Speaker Box Street Party for the joy of finding your flashmob tonight and joining in - the more they hate us, the more we need to take to the streets to show the joy that can be found here. Sorry to disappoint Rupert Lowe- London isn’t broken, it’s bouncing!

The BBC is in crisis with many calling for it to be broken up and political attacks at home and abroad - time to save it from interference by partisan elites by putting the public truly at the heart of our public service broadcasting and mutualising it. Democracy not Donald must be its future!

remembering is to give thanks for those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that others may be safe and to recommit ourselves to a world of peace and freedom for all. Thinking today of all who have lost a loved one to conflict and marking this in Westminster and Walthamstow. .

In a world all too often hostile and difficult, moments we can be ferris Bueller matter even more. Politics at its best should help us all have more of them with those we love.

not apologising for that reference or worried it ages me. Look him up kids. One of the greatest films of all time. Fact.

Some people have questioned whether tackling firework misuse in Walthamstow is really a big deal - watch the start and end of this video to see what’s been happening in Lea Bridge ( and elsewhere in our area!) and please help your local Labour teams do something about it!
