This is not really a "reliable majority" in any sense of either word..
The key numbers were these: Labour plus Lib- Dems 315; Tory 307; other parties, almost all of them more anti-Tory than anti-Labour, 28. Adonis argues that neither the DUP nor the Nationalists would have voted with the Tories, thus creating a reliable majority of around 30.

There's a bit in the Weinersmith book on space settlement that talks about Venus. Apparently the idea is to use the CO2 to grow bamboo and brew kombucha
Venus Venus's average daily surface temperature is over 450°C-hot enough to melt lead. You won't mind because you'll have already been crushed by an atmospheric pressure more than ninety times Earth's. That's assuming you survived the sulfuric acid clouds on the way in. On the plus side, the thick atmosphere will provide your remains ample protection against radiation. We haven't found too many proposals for a Venusian habitat, but there are a few ideas for a floating base in that thick atmosphere. It turns out that there's a slim shell of the Venusian sky that has human-friendly temperatures and pressure, low radiation, 90 percent Earth gravity, and access to atmospheric carbon dioxide. Location, location, location! If you're somehow not impressed by the idea of a life spent dangling above and below hell, you should talk to the nice people who proposed a project called Cloud Ten. Their plan is to use all that atmospheric carbon dioxide to grow bamboo and kombucha, out of which to build small cell-like habitats.

December, the month of infinite promise? The month of ever increasing laziness? The month of layering and mulled wine and sausages? My birthday month? In the lower third?? An outrage. A travesty. Nothing even happens in April!
9. December I think it should be noted that my dedication to hating winter is so pure and driven that I am willing to put my birthday month in the lowest third. December is the least bad winter month because it has my birthday in it and also usually some jolly drinks and dinners. Don't especially care for Christmas though.

I sense a bit of triumphalism about assessing the state of the Russian economy recently. So I believe a short Q&A, easily accessible to readers, is warranted. Is the Russian economy in crisis? Yes. Is the crisis passing or structural? It's structural and it won't get better until the war economy is dismantled and sanctions lifted. What is the nature of the crisis in question? Russia has entered the period of cessation of growth, coupled with rising inflation, lack of foreign investment, labor shortages and rising private/corporate debt. Parts of the private sector may collapse under pressure. Will this crisis stop the war effort? In the medium-term, no. The war would probably be over before the economic crisis stops it. Who will the crisis hurt the most, the state or the people? Primarily the people and social services provided by the state. Russia will not cut military expenditure, it will cut social expenditure instead. Won't this crisis and cutting social services expenditure cause dissent among the population? It should, yes. But dissatisfaction doesn't translate directly into action, meaning protests or organized resistance. There is no organized resistance in Russia on a national level. Certain social protests on a local level will be possible. Not enough to destabilize the regime. With a caveat that nobody can predict black swan events, which may change the equation. If the economic crisis won't stop the war and won't cause a popular uprising, is it unimportant? No. The crisis will shape the social and political landscape in Russia strategically. Meaning it's impacts will be seen in the future and the future political class will have to take these into account. In short-term, we will continue to observe negative indicators, the rising hardship of the private sector, take screenshots of the weakened ruble, but the war will continue as it did.
