I enjoy spreadsheets a normal amount. Any pronouns are fine; you cannot misgender me in a way that matters.
I use it more often than I don’t. Not life-changing, just… probably good, on average.

It does double as a nice body pillow though.

The pressure is generally good, but it doesn’t seem to make me sleep any better or faster. It’s already a bit too hot in the winter so I’m not looking forward to using it in summer temperatures.

Idk. When I stole a fuzzy blanket from my parents’ house to cuddle with, it felt immediately, instinctively Right.

The weighted blanket hasn’t been that, so far.

That's a completely reasonable question - it's always sounded a bit odd to me too. That's the technical term for it, though. It was coined by a noteworthy geographer in 1939, but I have no idea what his reasons were for choosing that word in particular.

I was going by the metro area, which I didn't say very clearly, but you're right, that's the population share of the city itself.

What are the implications for political/protest tactics? I don't know. That wasn't part of my geography education. But I do think it's clear that what works in structurally different places isn't always going to work here.

This is a double-edged sword. As we've seen many times, it hamstrings protests. As we're seeing now, it also hamstrings would-be authoritarians.

Our government is housed in DC. Our culture and economy are both split between the poles of NYC and LA. Our population is just fucking everywhere.

And that's before you get to the many, many ways in which government power resides in the states.

If you shut down Seoul - whether that's as the government to oppress the people or as the people to overthrow the government - you shut down South Korea.

What would be the equivalent in the US? There isn't one.

Most countries have a primate city - a city that's the political, economic, and cultural capital and the largest city by an order of magnitude. The Tehran metro area is around 11% of Iran's population. Paris is 16% of France's. Seoul is over 50% of South Korea's.

I should probably think about it less.

Normal and healthy experience from a normal and healthy religion.

Yeah, there are absolutely substantive differences. I’d just argue that broadly speaking, based on their history and what I understand of their internal politics, they’re the same species of thing.

If you define Puerto Rico as a colony, you’d almost certainly define Greenland as a colony too.

He is not worthy of one molecule of respect. Stop giving it to him.

Was that “against my interests”? The only reason I didn’t get exactly what I paid for is because culture got its shit together a lot faster than I did, and the people I was supporting lost.
