Spotted hyena cubs take a while to exhibit their spots. But how cute are they!?!

When you think the camera's off on your Zoom call but it's so not.

It's #WeirdDuckTime, and here's one (well actually two) of my favorite weirdos, the hooded merganser.

Sharing some icy beauty from a few days ago. Love the frosty native plants ❤️ and how even though they may look dreary this stage brings spring promise 🌱

Literal ice queen 👑🐝

This photo of an Endangered western bumble bee queen in her burrow is fascinating! They require freezing temps to survive their winter rest period.

How to tell a canvasback from a redhead

Throwback to the time I took a picture that continues to serve as my guide for telling these #birds apart. 🪶🦆

(Front) Redhead duck - classic duck look
(Back) Canvasback - long face that slopes and are larger

My 6yo niece drew the crossfox I adopted her from @worldwildlife.org and it is so pure and what the internet needs. I love it

Reasons I’m grateful for gray squirrels:

1) seed dispersal
2) they are resilient and bring wildlife to mind
3) adorable
4) watching them is enjoyable
5) food for other urban favs (foxes, hawks)

It blows my mind that there’s a caterpillar hiding in this flower! It is a camouflaged looper, cleverly disguised as its own food.

One of my photos was used to talk about Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by Nat Geo’s travel book. I just found out and am deeply honored. But I’m truly terrified for what will happen to this place for greed and short term gain. Putting fear into action is next.

2 weeks ago I was in the Outer Banks NC while Helene was battering other parts of the state. From the balcony I noticed what looked like a bright leaf. It was so still- was it a bird?! It was so far away that I needed a camera to see it. And wow! It was a resting red-eyed vireo! Camouflage game 💯

I appreciate a baby book that throws vultures some love. They could have brought their sense of smell into it too :)

Yes the flowers of Virginia bluebells are gorgeous. But let’s talk about their vibrant green leaves. So. Freaking. Stunning.

It’s the green of my dreams.
