You will never convince me that suggesting glasses be destroyed or the people wearing them be beaten is acceptable. The chances an innocent person will be attacked are high especially in a world where disabled people are often accused of faking

Agreed. We live in a world where teachers have tried to remove students insulin pumps and cochlear implants because they assumed they were phones or recording devices. Let’s not encourage destroying something that could end up being a legitimate aid.

Yeah that's also the key - great you can send a message to Deaf people - good job! But can your AI signer actually understand someone else's fluent ASL .. !?

Yeah... I want to know more about that company and being Deaf led... which kind of means if they want to do it than okay it's not hearing people making deaf signing gloves which really are BS because that's just one way communication and all that.

Though it looks like they're doing the work of working with Deaf people to make improvements? This might end up being one of those areas where some agree with it and some don't.

@novicsara.bsky.social - have you seen this?

I'm hard of hearing with not the best knowlege of ASL ... but I think generally if AI can't do appropriate facial expressions which are a major part of ASL then it's BS...

Oh yes I totally agree on this. There is such a good variety of Star Trek shows you can pick which one you want and we all have fun with it

In any case let the kids have fun with their Star Trek

Yeah I know for sure I need to give it a chance and watch an actual episode before deciding how I feel about it. The trailer makes it seem like it will not be my cup of tea - but I also think the trailer was focused on specific elements that will not be the whole.

Disabled isn't a dirty word, and it's fine to work through internalized ableism if you were raised thinking so. We live in an ableist world.

"legacy" = affirmative action for rich/white/privileged people

"do you know who my father/mother/grandparent is" = accommodations for r/w/p

they use different terminology so they can keep theirs when they take it away from others
