I would trust my - admittedly highly intelligent - cat Elma over ChatGPT any day. She requires little water, is energy-efficient, and has no capacity to lie, and she answers to her own furry self rather than some of the worst people in the world.

DAMN, that's unfair and dispiriting. Good on you for sharing. I hope that the conditions will be more enabling for your plans soon...🤗

I could probably only supply NZ ones... but the knowledge of the place where the mother seals used to leave their pups - in the manner of an actual seal creche - near Kaikoura while they went out to sea to feed might cheer you anyway. There was a SLIDE.

Pikelet is v NZ too, and originally Northern UK, although what it means may slightly vary (some crumpet intersection). Scotch Pancake a reasonable equivalent. Absolutely classic bring-a-plate food, with jam and cream, or just buttered - light and delicious. Can send you a recipe if you like!!

Yes... I must book. (I'm reflecting on the fact that my father, a few years younger than TS, escaped with his mother from Singapore in the very same weeks in 1942, ending up in Australia but, like TS, losing all the family documents on the way.)

Et, in Arcadia:

We shed as we pick up, like travellers who must carry everything in their arms, and what we let fall will be picked up by those behind. The procession is very long and life is very short. We die on the march. But there is nothing outside the march so nothing can be lost to it...

Continual meditations, tears and sorrows,
He gave his honours to the world again,
His blessed part to heaven, and slept in peace...3/3

Fun fact: Wolsey was the part most often performed in the readings given by Charlotte Cushman in mid C19 America, having famously played Romeo when younger.

Give him a little earth, for charity.’
So went to bed, where eagerly his sickness
Pursued him still, and three nights after this,
About the hour of eight, which he himself
Foretold should be his last, full of repentance, 2/3

At last, with easy roads, he came to Leicester;
Lodged in the abbey, where the reverend abbot,
With all his convent , honourably received him;
To whom he gave these words: ‘O father abbot,
An old man, broken with the storms of state,
Is come to lay his weary bones among ye. 1/3

I've done that one! it's wildly inaccurate but quite an involving jigsaw I thought, with some really fiendish bits!

🥲thank you. It's being very weird; people are being LOVELY but I can't remember feeling this exposed and vulnerable about a book ever before...
