The butterfly population at our summer meadows has increased by 350% in just three years thanks to a major wilding project.
Forty key grassland sites across the District were seeded with wildflowers and mowed only once to boost biodiversity.

People sleeping rough in St Albans District will all be offered a bed for the night during the winter.
We've worked with Open Door and other partners to provide the Winter Beds Project.
Open Door has also launched an appeal for volunteers to help out.

A Tree Warden scheme has been launched in St Albans District to give residents an opportunity to care for their local environment.
We have started a pilot project in the Cunningham area of the City and it will rolled out to other parts of the District.

Thousands of people are expected at the St Albans Christmas Cracker – the family-friendly event that kicks off the festive season.
The event takes place in the City Centre, noon until 6pm, on Sunday 16 November.

A fly-tipper has been ordered to pay almost £1,000 for dumping rubbish in a residential area..
This is the eighth fly-tipping prosecution that the Council has undertaken this year.

Everyone is welcome to attend a moving Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service in St Albans City Centre on Sunday 9 November.
St Albans Mayor, Councillor Teresa Heritage, will lead the annual event and will be joined by leaders of the major faiths.

We have embarked on a £730,000 programme of improvements to three cemeteries in St Albans District.
The enhancements include new gardens of rest at Westfield Road Cemetery, Harpenden, and London Road Cemetery, St Albans.

St Albans Mayor, Councillor Teresa Heritage, led a moving service to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day.
The event, on Friday 15 August, marked the anniversary of the end of the Second World War as well as Japan's surrender.

We have obtained £1.5 million from the Government's Warm Homes Fund to help our residents make energy-efficient improvements to privately-owned homes.
It is expected that around 100 homes will benefit with an average grant of around £15,000.

Our environmental enforcement team has now prosecuted six fly-tippers this year.
The latest offender, Viorica Chilianu, was ordered to pay £1,800 by St Albans Magistrates for illegally dumping waste near her home in Dellfield, Cunningham HIll.
