hi, i'm a programmer and amateur game developer/musician
right, the thing with most of these is that even when the bubble pops so to speak, they’ve already outed themselves as untrustworthy- if they’re making a decision like this, who’s to say they won’t make worse ones in the future?

agreed. the fact i have to have a blacklist of projects that now includes one of the major ones is really unfortunate.

im rambling but point is “transparency and attribution” isnt the problem. the problem is that this WILL result in an unstable mess.
apparently this is happening with the linux kernel as well, with
TBD policies.
boards of these projects- get your shit together and do something before its too late.

i think the asahi linux policy is a great example with a great URL asahilinux.org/docs/project...

"how do you enforce it" is a fair question. plagiarism always slips through, but at least with AI i can say from experience that when you’re familiar with conventions of the language and project it’s not hard to spot. having a license that prohibits AI code would steer people away from trying at all

i use linux for options. it feels like i barely have any these days

feels like no matter where i search for distros other than debian or arch there’s always some stupid gotcha. openSUSE removing YaST, adopting genAI images and having an installer in a *web browser* comes to mind

look, i don't like it either but in case you haven't noticed we live in a capitalist society. we should at least be TRYING to use the few frameworks we do have to our advantage
SUE LLM COMPANIES. AND FOR THE LOVE OF FUCK DO NOT ALLOW THEIR USE IN OPEN-SOURCE PROJECTS
I AM YELLING AT YOU FEDORA

the logic of "people will lie about it anyway" is really stupid. it's like saying "i'll just leave my door open, bugs will get in anyway." if you actually want your OS to thrive, then you enforce it as much as you can, so as to not make it another Windows.

yeah, that's fair. it is something that has and will naturally improve overtime, at least

don't get me wrong, criticisms are totally valid and can be part of how things improve. but also i don't think yelling angrily about how something many people hold dear is a "joke of an OS" is really getting us anywhere, yknow
(as if i have any influence lmao, just needed to get it out of my system)
