Getting a 10GbE connection across different VLANs doesn't really work, because each packet must be routed through the router, which costs time - and throughput. The solution is simple: a Multi-Homed host, where the physical NIC has an IP address in each VLAN :-) #HomeNetworking #10G

I have created my first VLAN on a Cisco Nexus switch!

Recreating my #Proxmox cluster from scratch, because I’m introducing major network changes (like dedicated VLANs).

As a little “side project” I have also integrated a WIFI7 6 GHz capable access point into the Home network. This gives me on the iPhone Pro Max 17 a throughput of more than 800MBit/sec! 😁

I have finally integrated the 10G switch into my Home Lab. The whole networking was rewired.

The largest challenge was to find a SFP+ to RJ45 module that is compatible with a Intel XL710 netword card…

You can find a (loud!) video of the boot process here: youtube.com/shorts/3y8wN...

This reminds me about a slide that I have used on Wednesday when I have talked about SQL Server 2025... (post is sent from Linux Ubuntu...)

I have a plan - somehow… 🫣

Yesterday I had a lot of fun to speak about SQL Server 2025 😎
December 11, 2025 at 11:50 AM
I’m looking forward to speak tomorrow a whole day long about the improvements in SQL Server 2025 - and about things which are not working as expected 🫢 #sqlserver #sqlpassion

Today I have reiceived the Ubiquity USW Pro XG switch. What a beast! 8x multi-speed ports (2.5GBit, 1GBit, 100MBit) and 16 (!) 10GBit ports!

A quick test between an old HP DL180 server that runs TrueNas (for ZFS experiments) and my MacBook Air (with a 10GBit Thunderbolt adapter) was successful 😎

It seems that I can't get Optimized Locking working in SQL Server 2025: the UPDATE statement still triggers a Lock Escalation (still X-lock on OBJECT), which shouldn't be the case when OL is enabled. The example from learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/re... works without any problems.... Ideas?

You can't (currently) delete a JSON index in SQL Server 2025 through SSMS v22...

Today, I have (almost) crossed the 7000K mark for cycling for the current year. Already more than 2000K compared to previous 2024. 💪 #cycling

Amazon shipments are getting worse these days: you get used, already opened things, damaged lights (which triggered an electrical power shutdown), and just wrong things: I’m trying to get a Ubnt 10GBit PoE injector. The 1st shipment included a 2.5G one, and today I got a 1G one… even unboxed…

I also always love to install the ZSH shell, and customize it accordingly, because it looks much better than the built-in shell. See the necessary steps here: dev.to/kanakos01/se...

If you have moved from Windows to Ubuntu, and you need RDP connections to existing Windows systems, you should check-out the Remmina Remote Desktop Client. It works like a charm :-) #Linux #Ubuntu #RDP

A Clustered Index can also have up to 32 keys - in SQL Server 2025.
December 1, 2025 at 6:41 PM
In Austria, we would say "Oida" (OMG): SQL Server 2025 supports up to 32 clustered key columns... #WTF
December 1, 2025 at 4:07 PM
I didn't even knew that I can create a Clustered Index/PK with more than 16 columns...?

If you store JSON data in SQL Server 2025, and you index it (you will have to index it!!!), plan your CPU consumption accordingly...
December 1, 2025 at 3:51 PM
If you create a Clustered Primary Key with more than 32 columns, you have other more serious problems... #sqlserver

Any ideas why I can't see in SSMS 22 (RTM) the Query Store on a Secondary Replica that runs on SQL Server 2025 RTM? #sqlserver

In preparation of my upcoming 10 GBit Home Network migration, I have rewired all existing 1 GBit connections directly to the Unifi Dream Machine Internet Router.

The existing 1 GBit switch will be replaced by a new Unifi Pro XG 24 switch, which provides me 8x 2.5GbE ports, and 16 (!) 10GbE ports.

When you create an ordered Non-Clustered Columnstore Index in SQL Server 2025, you need to do it single-threaded (MAXDOP = 1) to get a perfectly working Segment Elimination. The same also applies to Ordered Clustered Columnstore Indexes... #sqlserver #columnstore
