@hal.thelastboyscout.uk just noting that if you look at PPDA we are 2nd in the league which is weird when you look how low our high turnover wins and especially shots from high turnovers are.

At a high level the issue is a two-fold efficiency gap:

1. Volume: 15th in successful High Turnovers.
2. Conversion: Only ~1.5% of turnovers lead to a shot.

This structure played directly to Spurs’ strengths, improving ball progression out of the back and giving the team much better spacing between the lines.

This actually aligns with what I discussed in my article from a couple weeks ago. We actually seem fairly good at getting into 'threatening' positions but are terrible at converting that into good chances, which can explain partially the major xG issues we see: spursiq.substack.com/p/reading-be...

We are playing well. Especially considering how many starters are out. The stats will show us with very low xG again but there were some very nice attacking sequences. Just missing the final bit of quality in the final third.

- A change in team shape and structure (Kudus and Xavi both more central)
- Bentancur’s improvement on the ball and with progressive passes
- Van de Ven being braver with his passing through the middle
- Kolo Muani providing more hold-up play capability compared to Richarlison and Tel

While ‘moderate’ correlation overall, it is clear there are some teams where their xPosition (based on Opta's xPoints) after 7 matches last season were drastically different compared to their final position, with Spurs being the biggest outlier.
