"[If a narrator wants to evoke interest through his narrative] he will exaggerate, use superlatives, etc. Then he usually narrates the worse, because he is not thinking so much about the story as about himself." -- Friedrich Nietzsche, _Human, All Too Human_ (1878)

If you are trained to complain about the printing of money, you default to accepting the existence of money.

Ted Cruz's last two e-mails went to my spam mailbox.

Is my corporate "free" mail service trying to tell me something?

Drivin' in Colorado, Sep15 2024. I encountered a number of signs like this one, saying the roads were funded, at least in part, by the bipartisan infrastructure law. It appears, based on recent posts, such funding has been canceled. How's your roads?

"Writers who do not know how to express their thoughts clearly in general, will in particular prefer to select the strongest, most exaggerated terms and superlatives: this produces an effect as of torchlights along confusing forest paths." -- Friedrich Nietzsche, _Human, All Too Human_ (1878)

Having watched several films directed by Douglas Sirk, Written on the Wind (1956) is my favorite. A Scandal in Paris (1946) and
Lured (1947) follow, with Magnificent Obsession (1954) fourth.

I'd like to see more, but the library system doesn't have physical copies of what I want to see.

Another fire engine, sitting in the intersection of my little dead-end street and the connecting street.

Since condos, McMansions and gigantic duplexes were built here, this has become common.

I suspect this one's waiting for cops/ambulance. Sometimes the fire truck shows up first.

So, 47 and friends never directed anyone to rename the state between Texas and Arizona. The one south of Colorado.

Why not?

Relatives tell me: do not go "home". It's weird there, strange things happen. Then I see www.freep.com/story/news/l... which happened near where I once lived, and think maybe they're right.
