Idk exactly how connected the NPCs are to Caine but Abel definitely felt like less than just a creation and more like a mouthpiece, a way for him to interact with the human players without the baggage of knowing it's Caine. And the way he speaks, in hindsight, is honestly very chilling.

He's a VERY advanced AI but the Chinese Room confirms that, despite this, he STILL does not think or understand or process things like a human. It's such a clever detail to use that thought experiment as a plot point. No matter how intelligent he may seem, he will simply always be incapable.
