[4/5] In the end his journey with all that ends in him learning how to pace himself. No longer having to numb himself since his life did turn around with support from those around him.

[3/5] He's been in scenarios and pairings where such things were encouraged by his partner as well as in scenarios where they vehemently disagreed with it and tried to force him to stop outright, go cold turkey on just about everything

[2/5] he'd grown accustomed to numbing himself with whatever he could get his hands on (mainly alcohol and sometimes sex) due to how he was treated by his first lover, who introduced him to that world. Distraction was his top priority which further fuelled that destructive cogwork.
