Fuck genAI
Yeah, “off” isn’t really off if it can be “turned on” using the remote, as at the very least the infrared receiver and related circuitry must be powered on at all times.
If it’s a “smart” TV, it just goes to standby/sleep like a computer bc it runs similarly complex software that takes time to start

Oh and the ABSOLUTE WORST was my parents’ “ultrasonic” rat repellant! I had to get close to my dad to tell him to turn it off, and at that distance it literally caused me physical pain! My ears were ringing for days, I was worried that I suffered permanent hearing damage >_< He didn’t hear a thing…

The PSU of my LED desk lamp emits a high pitched whine… when the lamp is off. So I don’t even bother with the switch, I just unplug it.

Years ago a coworker and I spent several minutes looking for the source of a whine, only to find a GoPro being charged on my boss’s desk.

Hm, now I’m wondering whether certain electric/electronic products emit noises like that because although the engineers heard noises and wanted to fix them, the managers didn’t hear anything and decided to ship asap

That title will never not remind me of that horrifying Assassin’s Creed bug >_<

My technical understanding of the 1351 only extends to decades old vague memories of printing the POT values in C64 BASIC and seeing them wrap around :)

Ahhh, okay, I thought Commodore maintained compatibility on those pins as well. Thanks for the info!

:(

I have 9999 games for my VCS. Or something like that, can’t remember what the sticker lies about the number of built in games :D

Oh, uh, disclaimer: it’s been 15+ years since I tried this and both devices were clones, so you might want to read up on it before you try it to make sure I’m not saying something desctructively stupid :D

The 1351 switches to 1350 mode if you hold down one of the buttons on powerup, and then it acts like a joystick. Some Space Invaders-ish game was more fun using the mouse :) 1351 mode uses the POT inputs, but with limited range, so it’s probably not very useful, and I don’t have any paddle VCS games

Hahaha, it’s fine :D

I know (well, technically only two of them are, the other two are peripherals, and all of them are also used in/with other models (heck, I’ve even used a 1351 clone with a VCS clone) :P), I was trying to be funny about how they look like a bank card number together (and obviouly failed)

I “””bought””” Korg’s M1 plugin a while ago and they didn’t even need to be acquired for their license validation to fail in completely mysterious ways

The most shocking part of this is the 17 years 👴🏻

No idea, sorry. I only tried an mk2 a long time ago and don’t really remember what the stick was like, and the newer models might be entirely different anyway. I just thought it might be something you might want to look into as it’s closer to a gamepad’s analog stick than to traditional wheels

Awesome!

Have you seen/tried the stick on the Akai MPK Mini series?
