Okay, after grinding down the XM-01 front uprights to work with the M-08 arms, I got a whopping... 14mm of ground clearance.
I'll be interested to see how this works in any sort of dirt
Next up, the body. For which I accidentally bought water slide decals, so that'll be another experiment

Because I am dumb, I have attempted to seal this #tamiya M-08 gearbox against dust and dirt with 1mm rubber sheet so I can turn an indoor racing chassis into a rally car.
But also since these are custom bits, I may not be able to run this in mini class rallies....

The design is wild, no wires on the chassis really. The chassis is two metal halves insulated from each other, and the chassis itself carries electricity to the motor and accessories. (Photo of dirty chassis)

A little TLC and this Bachman Mikado 2-8-2 is running again, but it doesn't sound too happy. I had to clean off a lot of gummed up old lubricant, not sure what else I can do to help it out...

It turns out that after sitting in a box for 30 years, model trains don't want to run. A few run weakly. Not sure I have it in me to take them apart and service them. Might all need new motors, might just be seized up from ancient lubricant and oxidation.

I'm finally going through the boxes of model trains my dad packed up back in probably 94-95, and I found this. This car has a small, functional spotlight on it, and it's one of the most vivid memories of my childhood.

29 years ago, my dad took me to see Robot Wars. Today, I wore the shirt he bought me to take my kid to see the Robot Combat League finals. My dad would've really loved this kid.
