But when his eyes met Haruichi’s again, all he could see was acceptance, a soft pink dusting across his cheeks, and a smile so blinding it would put the sun to shame.

He should have listened to his heart from the start.

END.

the soft press of contact sending a shiver down his spine. As he pulled away, the reality of what he had done set in. He froze, waiting for Haruichi’s reaction, his heart pounding wildly in his chest. He had been impulsive, so bold it surprised even himself.

But then, almost as if without conscious thought, he leaned in, his lips finding Haruichi’s in a tentative, hesitant kiss. For a moment, it was just the two of them, their lips meeting in a rush of emotion. Aoi felt the warmth of Haruichi’s mouth against his own–

"The heart is never wrong, you know." Haruichi’s hand on his chin, the intensity of his gaze, it all felt like a challenge. Aoi’s mind was racing, conflicting emotions pulling him in opposite directions. Fear, hope, excitement, all fighting for control.

Aoi could be as physically strong as possible but when it came to Haruichi, he was emotionally weak. Just a fool with a crush, too stubborn to speak up. But it seemed Haruichi had seen through that too. Haruichi chuckled again, his hand moved to Aoi’s chin, tilting his head so they were eye to eye.

Aoi felt every nerve in his body reacting to Haruichi’s touch, the warmth of his fingers, the way his voice caressed his name. He wanted to look away, to hide the emotions he couldn’t conceal, but it was useless.

Haruichi’s eyes were fixed on him, as if trying to read his every thought. He reached up, fingers brushing against Aoi’s hair, the gesture so tender that it only added to the whirlwind of emotions coursing through him. "You should trust your heart more, Aoi," Haruichi whispered.

He stepped closer, closing the distance between them. Aoi’s heart hammered in his chest, his breath catching as Haruichi looked down at him, their height difference suddenly feeling pronounced and yet somehow insignificant. "It’s cute," he murmured, his words spoken softly, for Aoi’s ears only.

“I’m not-" Aoi wanted to deny everything, but the words refused to leave his mouth, the lie tasting bitter on his tongue. Haruichi merely smirked knowingly, the glint in his eyes growing even brighter.
October 24, 2024 at 4:32 AM
What, exactly, he wasn’t quite sure, but the intensity in Haruichi’s gaze was impossible to ignore. He looked up, meeting Haruichi’s eyes, his heart skipping a beat as their gazes locked. He suddenly found himself with a sense of free falling that both scared and excited him.

"If you always look away when I look at you, you’ll miss the big picture, Aoi.”

Aoi swallowed, the weight of Haruichi’s words settling on him. It was true, he realized. He’d been so focused on avoiding eye contact, on trying to appear unaffected, that he had missed something.

Haruichi chuckled, clearly amused by Aoi’s attempt to feign indifference, though failing miserably. "Don’t lie," he mused, tilting his head to the side. "Your face tells me all I need to know."
His eyes danced with a mixture of mischief and curiosity, holding a glint of something more intense.

–his nerves on edge, it was impossible to hide. "Shut up," he mumbled, the words more of a knee-jerk reaction than a rebuttal. He chanced a glance at Haruichi, the intensity of his gaze stealing the breath from his lungs.

“Oh, look at that,” he whispered, his voice tinged with a hint of satisfaction, “you’re cute when you blush.” Aoi’s heart pounded in his chest, the compliment sending a wave of warmth through him. He tried to keep a straight face, but the way his heart was racing–

Aoi’s breath caught at the words, his eyes widening in surprise. He looked away, an attempt to hide the blush creeping onto his cheeks. But Haruichi was too close, too perceptive to miss the subtle signs.Haruichi’s smile widened, his tone turning more confident.

Haruichi chuckled softly, a low sound that made Aoi's heart race. Leaning in a little closer, his voice dropped lower, quieter, his blue eyes glinting mirthfully. "Well, if you're staring so intently, it almost makes it seem like you've got a crush on me," Haruichi said.
October 24, 2024 at 4:29 AM
“You're staring again, Aoi," he teased, a playful edge to his voice. "Getting distracted by my charm, are you?"
Aoi knew he’d been caught but it wasn’t the first time. His nose scrunched up, lips barely moving as the corners of his mouth curled upward.
“And If I am?”

But whenever Aoi caught himself looking a little too long at Haruichi, he couldn’t help but wonder if there was something more under the pretense of friendship. Haruichi was as observant as ever, catching sight of the prolonged glances Aoi threw his way. He smirked, a knowing glint in his eyes.

As their training sessions and missions continued, the bond between them only seemed to grow stronger, the air between them charged with a potent mixture of admiration, rivalry and something else that neither of them quite understood.

It only got worse when they were accepted into the Third Division. Training sessions, meals, missions, all side by side as if the Vice Captain and Captain had it out for him by pairing them together whenever there was a chance. He hated it - he loved it.
October 24, 2024 at 4:28 AM
“Yep, just as I thought, you're a quiet one, huh?”
And Maybe if Aoi had spoken up more he wouldn’t have become known for being so quiet, but it wasn’t as if he really wanted to talk with everyone. He just wanted to talk to Haruichi, but the words caught in his throat like butterflies in a net.

Haruichi smirked, a sparkle in his eyes that seemed to reflect his amusement. He leaned forward slightly, the casual ease of his stance only adding to the confidence with which he carried himself. The air around him seemed charged, the subtle power of his presence clear in the intensity of his gaze.

not for any exam or practice drill. But then again, he’d never come across anyone quite like Haruichi. Aoi managed a hum of affirmation, a small nod of his head, his expression tense because he was worried his feelings were going to show on his face should he open his mouth for more than a breath.
October 24, 2024 at 4:27 AM
The vice around his heart gave way and for the first time in a long time, he found himself feeling winded. How was he supposed to respond when it felt like all the air had left his lungs? When he’d never felt as nervous as when Haruichi stepped toward him,
October 24, 2024 at 4:27 AM
Or maybe it was because Haruichi had singled him out with a confident smile, “You’re Aoi Kaguragi, right?”
It hadn’t been the kind of voice he’d been expecting - calm and collected, a little lilt to it that belied his interest. And Aoi was a goner.
