I went to a comic panel in the 1990s in London where Woodring was speaking. I asked him a question about Boris Artzybasheff, and he was flabbergasted. He bought me a beer afterwards!

Love Alan Garner. What he said about children's books has always stayed with me - this is from the inside flap of 'Red Shift' (1973) which I happen to have in front of me.

Man, that's good design! The way the stripe on the cover extends around to the spine. Bold use of black and red. Small, restrained illo. And those lovely fonts! The whole thing just makes you ache to pick up the book and hold it in your hands.
