yea 8 & 9 dont really exist as they're "illegal numbers" in octal.

its pretty much like the case of binary where theres 2 digits (only 0's & 1's) but 2 as a number is beyond limits lol

oh yea they do exist counting from 1 to 7 on octal just like in decimal and the odd-even pattern remains the same basically

hopefully for clearer and better reference, here's how the conversion would look:

base-8/octal uses 8 digits (0-7) in comparison of our everyday base-10/decimal (0-9)
to reduce confusion: our 8 is my sprunki's 10, our 10 = their 12, value shifts.

the number formation symbols i made for my AU are written in typically 1 or 2 strokes (at minimum) so they're more similar to ours
