he reminds me very much of this actor—whose name I have never bothered to learn—who plays the asshole leader of his department in Chicago PD. He plays an "old-style" cop who lies on the stand, illegally cages & beats up suspects, unapologetically breaks every rule & intimidates all his subordinates.

"...starting to contend with the fact that the president will soon be gone..."
that dude's been gone for a long time. only the long memory of grievances and the massive ego remains.

Watching the oddest episode of The A Team I've ever seen: from 1986, "Quarterback Sneak"—early in the 5th season when it got weird, but before it was so weird it got canceled. Featuring Joe Namath, John Matuszak, Jim Brown. & an uncredited (on iMDB) Jerry Van Dyke. a dimly remembered different time.

I found this fascinating thread a bit difficult to pursue through to the end, but if you get there, you will find this photo of Jordan Peterson looking exactly like a garter snake.

it's definitely Lara Trump: dark brown hair bleached semi-blonde; lots of foundation, mascara & grey eye shadow & a general air of having had a lot of work done. definitely she.

Cuomo also dredged up 9/11--again--, saying Mamdani doesn't understand what 9/11 did to NYC. Cuomo has a long history of milking 9/11 for political points.

I'm beginning to feel a little overwhelmed by this geranium in the kitchen window. sometimes geraniums just sputter—like the small one down below left. it was outside all summer & ought to have thrived. but the monster listens to sports radio & hogs all the window light.

btw, I dug that ruler out of a drawer & I think it must have been my dad's—possibly one of my older brothers's. I'm sure it's from the early 50's—even earlier, if it was my dad's. I still have some of his really old stuff & my youngest brother still has all of his old tools. it's a reverence thing.

the oak trees in my neighborhood are mostly Oregon White Oak—a species that I understand to be mostly regional to the Willamette Valley—at least now. the leaves, when they turn, are an uninteresting dull tannish-brown, & their sizes vary considerably. the biggest leaves are startlingly large.

prior to 2021, minor league teams were, at least to some extent, their own entities. although most or all were widely regarded as farm teams for specific franchises, they could still call their souls their own. but in 2021, it was sign or die. everything changed then. but really way before then.

My city has a minor league team also—the Ems have been here as long as I can remember, but they will soon have to either move or fold. The city voted against the construction of a new park last year. It's all because of—IMHO—MLB's overreach, making new requirements few cities have finances to meet.

it's weird but I had never even heard of the term until recently; it IS odd that we've never coined a term for it in English, but we don't really need one, since everyone seems to know the French term. We can say someone's stuck in no-man's land, but there's no term for the whole bitter experience.
