Tell me about it. I was so paranoid about getting the wiring wrong and shorting the entire system.

Still, a pretty cool and totally inexpensive tool in the lab.
An acoustic levitator. There's a white frame that is two spherical "caps" separated by some struts. Each cap is covered with acoustic transducers, point at the transducers in the other cap. There are wires and some electronic hardware (an oscilloscope) in the background. All of this on a white surface.

This image shows the moon, designated S/2025 U1, as well as 13 of the 28 other known moons orbiting the planet. (The small moon Cordelia orbits just inside the outermost ring, but is not visible in these views due to glare from the rings.) Due to the drastic differences in brightness levels, the image is a composite of three different treatments of the data, allowing the viewer to see details in the planetary atmosphere, the surrounding rings, and the orbiting moons. Here's their justification for Planetary Science cuts. It's all focused on the human spaceflight to the Moon and Mars. There is no interest in science.

This will be devastating if enacted.
Within Planetary Science, increased funding is requested for a new Mars initiative to provide lower-cost, competitively selected missions and instruments that address both human exploration and science objectives. These payloads will take advantage of the new Commercial Mars Payload Services established within ESDMD. The Lunar Discovery and Exploration Program will continue to develop scientific instruments for Artemis II and III missions and payloads for commercial delivery to the Moon via the Commercial Lunar Payload Services project, which has been transferred to ESDMD. NASA will terminate the Mars Sample Return mission and will further reduce the portfolio by halting progress on several other missions. Activities within Planetary Science Research, Venus and Mars Technology, and Radioisotope Power Systems are reduced, and will focus on high priority science investigations and technologies relevant to planned missions.

These two articles show how broken our vaccination programs already are and how much more broken they may get. Vaccines are probably the most amazing and successful scientific discovery by humans ever. To ignore this amazing tool for saving lives is a tragedy.

NASA is stopping all assessment groups (e.g., MEPAG announcement below). This looks like the first step in a lot of disruption for planetary science and exploration. I worry that the Trump administration may be planning to permanently remove the input from scientists in future planning.

Who does love an image of Saturn? Here’s one from Voyager 1 mission. The narrow angle visible camera caught this stunning view.

You can see some of the ring structure that we later explored in more detail using the Cassini mission.

Voyager 1 looked back at Saturn on Nov. 16, 1980, four days after the spacecraft flew past the planet, to observe the appearance of Saturn and its rings from this unique perspective. A few of the spokelike ring features discovered by Voyager appear in the rings as bright patches in this image, taken at a distance of 5.3 million kilometers (3.3 million miles) from the planet. Saturn's shadow falls upon the rings, and the bright Saturn crescent is seen through all but the densest portion of the rings. From Saturn, Voyager 1 is on a trajectory taking the spacecraft out of the ecliptic plane, away from the Sun and eventually out of the solar system (by about 1990). Although its mission to Jupiter and Saturn is nearly over (the Saturn encounter ends Dec. 18, 1980), Voyager 1 will be tracked by the Deep Space Network as far as possible in an effort to determine where the influence of the Sun ends and interstellar space begins. Voyager 1's flight path through interstellar space is in the direction of the constellation Ophiuchus. Voyager 2 will reach Saturn on August 25, 1981, and is targeted to encounter Uranus in 1986 and possibly Neptune in 1989. The Voyager project is managed for NASA by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California.
