“You have spies in my ranks.” Ferdinand did not give Hubert a chance to deny it, and doubted he would have anyway. “You knew I was alive and well.” “Clearly I need better ones if they did not report your injury,” Hubert grumbled, putting some space between them once more. “But you knew I would return to you,” Ferdinand argued. “I have no such luxury.” Hubert glanced away, folding his arms once more, white gloved fingertips digging into his coat sleeve. “I knew you would return, nothing more.” Ferdinand frowned, attempting to dissect what Hubert was trying to tell him. What he was refusing to say so overtly. “Darling,” he sighed, stepping forward. Hubert did not stop him this time, instead allowing Ferdinand to catch his waist. His glare was still harsh, but there was a vicious flush making its way down his neck. “I missed you,” Hubert admitted, slowly unwinding from himself. Hands delicately traced Ferdinand’s shoulders as he pressed his face into ginger hair and inhaled slowly. “I was not worried — I would not have worried had you told me.” “You would have dropped everything to attend me had I told you,” Ferdinand halfheartedly argued. He knew he should stop, should not push Hubert any further, “I already had.” An exasperated huff ruffled Ferdinand’s hair. “Not because you were hurt, but because I had not seen you in a fortnight.”

For all her love of opera, Ferdinand von Aegir was a terrible actor. And a worse liar. Why had Hubert thought this was a good idea? Ferdinand seemed incapable of looking at Hubert with anything other than abject disgust. Which did not make them seem like much of a couple. "Ferdie, what are you doing here?" hissed a voice behind them laced with more malice than Hubert thought Dorothea capable of. Hubert stepped in before Ferdinand could ruin this scheme more than she already had. "You insisted I bring a date," Hubert reminded her, "on threat of setting me up." "So you brought Ferdie?" Dorothea asked in clear disbelief. "Correct." Despite it being Hubert's scheme, it was not she who Dorothea rounded on, but Ferdinand. "If this is how you try and prove you've changed it's disgraceful, really." "What?" Ferdinand sputtered, blinking quickly and clearly taken aback. "If you were wanting a pat on the head for figuring out why you're like a bee this is not the way to do it, and you should be ashamed." Dorothea huffed, turning away and tossing a dismissive, "Enjoy the party," over her shoulder. "Dorothea, wait —" Ferdinand went to follow Dorothea, but Hubert clamped a hand down on her shoulder before she could. "What was that about?" Hubert asked, watching Dorothea thread through the crowd. Ferdinand harshly shrugged Hubert's hand off her, but did not make to follow. She just hung her head and sighed. "I do not know. Some riddle Dorothea has given me — she hates me because I am like a bee?" Hubert frowned, mulling it over. Just because Ferdinand couldn't figure out didn't mean it was beyond Hubert. "Because you're annoying and always buzzing around," she suggested. The look Ferdinand shot her was unfathomably hurt. Not the usual anger with which she faced Hubert. Despite herself, Hubert felt a pang of guilt at having dragged Ferdinand here. Not that Ferdinand was helping out for truly altruistic purposes. But then her purpose had just shouted at her. "It is not that. I have already asked," Ferdinand muttered, folding her arms. Their night went from bad to worse when the questions began in earnest.

But I gotta bully myself into finishing this one for today's prompt (and I have a thing tonight so it'd gonna be largely written on my phone on the train)
“Don’t plants usually attract bugs?” “Well some of these do, but they also eat them, so any bugs that get in don’t last very long.” “Huh,” Leonie muses, “that’s pretty amazing.” “I know.” Bernadetta practically beams at her, its the most delighted Leonie has ever seen her. She’s almost cute when she smiles. It makes her eyes crinkle and her lips part just enough to show her front two teeth were slightly longer than the rest. “They’re really hard to grow in the greenhouse here, but they’re just perfect in my room. Did you—” She hesitates, chewing her bottom lip before all the words tumble out at once. “Did you want to come in and have a look at them? Maybe?” Leonie can’t help the way her eyebrows shoot up, and the “Oh?” that slips from her lips. “Right, sorry, no. Stupid idea. You’re probably just being nice and —“ “I’d love to,” Leonie cuts off Bernadetta’s rambling. And if her offering to let others in her room was a big step forward, the fact that she actually stop and listens is basically a marathon. “Plus, it’ll be safe from the spiders right?” Bernadetta brightens. “Right.” She awkwardly shuffles to the side of the door offering Leonie a route in. “B-but you can only stay for a bit!” Leonie is too surprised at being invited in at all to protest this. She slips in past Bernadetta, hearing the door quickly shut behind her.

'Devour' is good if you're after something with a little more edge ('feast upon' similarly)
'Partake' if you're feeling like an upstanding noble maybe 😅

Wip Wednesday but it's actually Thursday and I guess the reason it's 1am and I can't sleep is this

Hubert pressed him on his plans for the day after they finished debriefing the soldiers. No doubt a ploy to find ways to critique his schedule. Ferdinand would not lie to try and appease Hubert though. If he even still thought Hubert possible to appease. It was as if he wanted to find things to pick apart. And if he looked hard enough he'd always find something. "A warm bath, a cup of tea, and then I shall see if Petra is available to train." His mounting irritation was becoming unbearable. He could not even summon the politeness to return the question. "I'll make your tea," Hubert said, matter of factly. Springing the trap it had become so obvious he was laying whenever he spoke to Ferdinand. And this time Hubert was trying to poison one of the few remaining joys in Ferdinand's life. He would not allow it. "I will make it myself." "I insist." Ferdinand forcibly loosened his jaw. "Then I will not be having tea." He could not even enjoy the way Hubert's smirk fell into a frown. "But you like tea." "It is not the tea that is the problem," Ferdinand snapped. "It is you." At least Hubert still trusted him to bathe himself. "What, are you worried I will brew it better than you?" Hubert taunted. "No." A partial lie, Ferdinand still at least hoped he could out do a man who didn't even drink the tea when it came to brewing. "I simply wish to enjoy my tea and such things have once again become impossible in your company." Hubert blinked quickly, his frown deepening. Had he truly forgotten Ferdinand was capable of giving as good as he got? "That's rather harsh." Harsh? How laughable that Hubert was the one insisting Ferdinand was out of line.
