But I can totally buy Top Ride being the most rushed of the four game modes. Top Ride being arguably better in the original (not saying it is or isn't) is a minor nitpick really.

I will review the other modes as I get closer to completion!

In the conversation of "does this replace Air Ride", I do think the quality of the checklists is worth bringing up!

Also, we lost the ability to customise exactly what items are available. That's been a feature since smash 64, why take it out here?

Honestly though, this batch of challenges was pretty weak, especially compared to the original game. Many of the time challenges were borderline impossible on default settings, but you can just set it to one lap and make them trivial. Feels kinda thoughtless. No time trial challenges either.

I'll admit, I did use the three open boxes. I could not figure out how to get Daroach to steal items, and I never saw the missile ability once. Couldn't figure out how to do the Susie propeller challenge either.

So uh, what's the mod?

One thing I also really appreciate about these pieces is how they're composed to line up with the average progression through the track in Air Ride mode. The guitars kick in when you're meant to enter the deep caves with the crystal dragon, and it loops right about when you hit the start again.

I already did! Easily my favourite original track from the game.

Say what you will about the story, but Anthony Higgs is the best side character in a Metroid game, and he deserves another chance. I still remember him 🥺

I think it's worth playing! While I acknowledge it has flaws, I'm someone who really enjoyed their time with the game. I think there's a lot to love in it.
