Do you have links to those? COVID is a BSL 2/3 pathogen now but it's possible it was once at 4 due to its novelty, so it's possible these numbers are outdated

The University is dragging this out with an army of HR consultants and a labor attorney who charges $600+/hr. Our tax dollars at work 🙃 The fact that we have to hold a hearing for a public institution to respect the law of the land is absurd. Ski-U-Mah!

We as a union tried to negotiate over this for 8 months. At no point did we receive a single proposal besides, and I mean this literally, a print out of ours with every single word struck through in red.

UMN HR says that fellows do not do any work or provide any service to the U. Because only employees can be in a union, the U insists that law did not actually change. "A fellow that does work", to them, doesn't exist 🦄, and our stupid dumb legislators amended a law to give rights to unicorns.

The work fellows and RAs do is often identical. Faculty certainly don't treat us differently or even keep track of who is what. I am a graduate fellow but have seamlessly changed semester to semester from fellow to RA and back. I do the same things no matter which title I happen to have.

This is a labor rights thing, but EVEN IF YOU DON'T SUPPORT GRAD UNIONS, THIS MATTERS. The U is BREAKING THE LAW. This law says that graduate fellows are in the same union bargaining unit as teaching (TAs) and research assistants (RAs).

Well, considering that AG Ellison called on both the parties to "return to negotiations immediately", it sounds like the U was involved in the negotiations and then walked out...
