fine. whatever. my worldbuilding's magicians get some easy math shortcuts. 😒

the catalyst for all this was, firing a parabolic magic missile over a "barricade" while being mindful of a literal ceiling above the area. so identifying how far your magic missile can go with all these limitations

i. think. the x = 4y_m thing is related the latus rectum and focal length of the parabola 😶

so the points on the parabola where the derivative is ±1 are the end points of the latus rectum... ... ... ...

the reason i deep-dive into math is because i think about the Joules that are needed for magick. and then the numerical limitations of a spell. and then how the energy is used as kinetic energy for firing a magic missile. and then the max speed to power ratio of the spell. and so forth. 😐

OKAY i got the proper eqn for the farthest x displacement of a parabolic magic missile, shot at 45deg, with a height limit on the parabola LOL

AND THEN JUST REALIZED THERE WAS A PROOF FOR THIS ALSO ON WIKIPEDIA SLKJDGLS
